How is Dr Thaker’s method for hair transplantaion unique?
Hair transplantation offers one of the most profound and lasting improvements in a patient’s appearance and sense of self-esteem, in all of cosmetic surgery. Dr Thaker is a cosmetic surgeon with unique and significant University training in hair transplantation. He trained at the prestigious University Hospital of Athens, Greece, to add a special ‘no incision’ technique to his approach to hair restoration. Dr. Thaker’s technique involves implanting follicles in key areas using needle implanters and without traditional incisions. His methods combine the highest level of technical precision with artistic design for the patient’s hair restoration. See some recent results here: Gallery
Dr Thaker has been a featured expert in the news media regarding hair restoration. He also has taught hundreds of medical doctors and health care professionals regarding hair restoration as a continuing medical education course director. He has been asked to serve as a hair restoration director for both international and US cosmetic chains, whereas he enjoys the independence of private practice. Our practice is unique in offering the full array of treatment options to our patients through an individualized approach. See a recent interview here.
Is transplanted hair permanent?
Hair transplantation using Dr Thaker’s unique techniques is a profound ‘cure’ for baldness for many patients. This is because lost hair is replaced by transplanted follicles, which resist hair loss. The key is that hair from the back of the head comes from a ‘safe zone’. Hair from the ‘safe zone’ tends not to fall out, even when transplanted to the front of the scalp. This hair can last many years or even a life time. This technique does not involve a tell-tale scar at the back of the head, nor thousands of tiny incision tracks and lines that scar the front of the scalp. The needle implanter technique is particularly useful at the front of the scalp, where follicles are most noticeable.
Are hair transplants only for male pattern baldness?
Once thought of as a treatment for only male pattern baldness, hair transplantation can be equally effective for women. We use hair transplantation to treat hair loss in other areas such as eyebrows, chest hair and beard restoration. Hair transplantation also improves the appearance of scars on the scalp, such as from injuries or from prior ‘strip’ surgery performed elsewhere.
For all patients, we begin our analysis of hair loss with a search for medical causes. Other doctors may miss or avoid all together as they focus on other aspects of disease. This is the importance of seeing a hair loss expert, with training in hair restoration. Dr Thaker thus first establishes that a patient does not have a medical condition that must be addressed properly. A common example is thyroid disease or even a medication effect. These can affect men and women equally. We address these causes first and provides solutions hand in hand with surgical techniques that are lasting, safe and effective.
How does Dr. Thaker achieve such high growth rates of hair grafts?
Surgical transplantation is often combined with ‘PRP’ to stimulate hair growth and retention. PRP or platelet rich plasma is a type of regenerative medicine treatment. We take a small sample of the patient’s own blood, and centrifuge it to concentrate the growth factors made by platelets. To maximize yield of the surgery, PRP is injected into the scalp usually on the day of the procedure. This ‘PRP’ is injected to not only maximize yield of the grafts, but also aid in recovery of the hair ‘donor site’. The main reason is each individual only has so many possible donor hair follicles. Each follicle graft is valuable and PRP can help assure graft survival. PRP is also a popular alternative to surgery for those who do not want an operation.
Also, our non-traumatic techniques involve minimal handling of the delicate bulb of the follicle. This is a key aspects of hair transplant surgery to maximize growth for a cosmetic result. These aspects for graft survival are overlooked by the ‘factory approach’ offered elsewhere. This is where large suction machinery is used to harvest grafts. This is sometimes combined in other centers with unlicensed technicians and non-M.D. staff performing key aspects of the surgery that should be done by the surgeon. We view hair transplantation as involving craftsmanship and the personal attention of the doctor to every step of your surgery. By this attention to detail, we can produce the best cosmetic result for our patients suffering from hair loss.
