REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Regenerative Medicine – PRP, Fat Transfer, and beyond

We use regenerative medicine to restore and preserve the body’s physical integrity and functioning at optimum levels. Many cutting edge physicians world wide and innumerable patients use the concepts, believe in the treatments, and have enjoyed the results. This is despite that in regenerative medicine exact results are difficult to prove with smaller scale clinical studies. At the forefront is platelet rich plasma therapy or ‘PRP’. PRP is natural and harnesses your body’s own regenerative powers. We take a small sample of your own blood, and process this plasma in a special centrifuge to concentrate the growth factors made by platelets. Finally, we inject ‘PRP’ into the areas of concern, to stimulate the natural regenerative process.

Regenerative medicine is considered ‘cutting edge’ and is therefore an ’emerging technology’ or ‘investigational’. Thus, it is rarely covered by insurances. Many uses are ‘off-label’ uses versus traditional treatments that may have been tried with limited success first. Regenerative medicine opens a whole new door to results. The fact that it is considered by some to be ‘new’ is interesting. PRP has been around since the late 1970s. Dr Thaker has used PRP for wound healing as a young doctor in the late 1990s, when he was involved in wound care and research in the burn unit, as well as to stimulate bone healing. This evokes the adage, ‘what is once old, will be new again’. Book an appointment here.

Regenerative Medicine- Skin Care

We use PRP for cosmetic skin care of the face, breast, buttocks or other areas. We often combine PRP with microneedling. For facials some call it a PRP facial or a ‘dracula facial’, as popularized by many celebrities. Microneedling delivers the PRP below the skin, to stimulate healthy regeneration. Dr Thaker injects the PRP with a tiny ‘mosquito’ needle, and even uses the plasma called PPP, or ‘platelet poor plasma’ also. Thus we use every element of the plasma for healing properties to produce the greatest results. In under an hour, treatment may help reverse signs of aging and sun damage from decades. Best results are seen about one month later when healthy skin growth and healing develops.

Regenerative Medicine- Pain Management

At the forefront of regenerative therapy for pain management is Platelet-rich plasma or ‘PRP therapy’. PRP is a natural way to harness your body’s own regenerative powers. PRP takes a small sample of your own blood, and processes this sample in a special centrifuge to concentrate the growth factors that are derived from the platelets. We then inject PRP into the areas of concern, such as a painful joint, stimulating your natural regenerative processes. By making a specific diagnosis and developing a unique treatment plan using regenerative therapies, Dr Thaker can thus best produce lasting results and relieve pain. There are even a few highly specific diagnoses that are covered fully by insurances for PRP, as a testament to its effectiveness in these areas, that Dr Thaker can determine by evaluation.

Regenerative Medicine- Joint Pain

Apart from PRP, visco-elastic supplementation can be used for joint pain that has failed prior therapies. This is injection of a prepared product into the knee joint, which many patients think of as ‘oiling up the knee’, with natural components found in healthy joint fluid. Hyaluronate is the key substance injected and found in joint fluid, that provides the lubricating and shock-absorbing quality to the fluid, and it is essential for the proper functioning of joints.

At times we inject into or about the spine, joint, or other area of the musculoskeletal system. These medications include lidocaine, such as for trigger point injections. These are painful areas of muscle, that produce pain. A trigger can be physically felt by a skilled examiner. Of course steroid injections are well known to calm inflammed joints and tissues and are often effective alone or in combination with lidocaine, and in conjunction with regenerative medicine.

Remember, just because the exact cause of pain has not been determined by prior clinical care, this does not mean that a ‘pain generator’ does not exist. The patient is still in pain despite the lack of an exact diagnosis. This pain can still be treated for the patient. This is the cornerstone of Dr Thaker’s pain management philosophy. Regenerative Medicine- PRP for Hair Loss

We use PRP to treat thinning hair along with hair restoration surgery or as a stand alone service. We take a small sample of the patient’s own blood, to concentrate the growth factors that come from platelets. Thus, surgical transplantation is often combined with regenerative medicine or ‘PRP’ to stimulate hair graft growth. We inject PRP into areas of concern on the scalp. We inject to maximize growth of the grafts, and also aid in recovery of the ‘donor site’. The main reason is each individual only has so many usable donor hairs. Thus, we support the growth of the grafted hair by using PRP. VIDEO: Dr Thaker offers hair restoration surgery in las vegas

Dr Thaker uses atraumatic techniques, minimal handling of the delicate follicles, as well as PRP with surgery. These key aspects of our hair transplants maximize graft growth and your result. These aspects for graft survival are often overlooked by the ‘factory approach’. This is where others use suction machinery and often by non-M.D. staff. See more about hair loss here.

Beyond PRP

We can fine tune our injection methods for different uses of PRP. For example, some red blood cells are left in the PRP, to promote oxygen and nutrients for joint pain injection. We remove red blood cells for cosmetic PRP to avoid pigmentation. If certain white blood cells remain with the PRP, we use PRP for other types of treatment. Even the part of the plasma that other doctors discard, ‘PPP’ or platelet poor plasma, has growth factors we use as a natural healing mask after facial procedures for example. Dr Thaker has taught hundreds of doctors and health care professionals his techniques from around the world. He offers all of these special techniques to his patients, in an individualized treatment plan customized for you.

Fat Transfer

Liposuction permanently removes fat from problem areas. The best part about liposuction may be that the fat we remove, we can use for fat grafting or fat transfer to enhance other areas. Examples include hollow points on the face, or enhancing the breast or buttocks. Also, it is this very same fat that is thought by some to contain regenerative cells or ‘stem cells’. This is one of the greatest areas of current medical research and public interest.

Dr Thaker trained in a personalized preceptorship with the world’s expert in tumescent liposuction, Dr Jeffrey Klein. This is a method where we inject local anesthetic solutions into the areas for liposuction. We use it to control pain and to minimize bleeding, without the risk of other anesthesia. Tumescent technique is regarded by some as the world’s safest liposuction technique. The patient is comfortable and alert, and can talk to the team as needed during the procedure. There is no risk from general anesthesia or IV sedatives, or ‘going to sleep and not waking up’ as some patients say.

Thus fat transfer is a unique surgical treatment, where body fat that is normally unwanted and discarded, we use to enhance other areas. See more about fat loss here.
